More and more young Canadians are choosing to travel in and learn about South America. Travel Cuts, which boasts a client base that is 85 percent in the 18-35 age group, noted that its bookings to South America increased 40 per cent from last year, Central America 15 per cent. Mandy Tejera, 46, of Montevideo, and Cecilia Rodriguez-Santana, 28, of Salto, are in Cincinnati as part of the teacher exchange program. The program is sponsored by sponsored by Northern Kentucky University and a U.S. Department of Education to strengthen school districts. Droughts and floods are threatening South America as hurricanes whip through the Caribbean. Global warming and the emission of greenhouse gases has struck. Uruguay has been trying to get out of Mercosur. The trade block no longer seems to benefit smaller players like Uruguay and Paraguay and work instead only for the big three: Brazil, Argentina, and Venezuela. The fashion world has been in a sort of tailspin about ultra-thin models. Now two Uruguayan sisters died of heart attacks just months apart. Luisel Ramos, 22, died on August 2 soon after her runway walk.
