Kansas State University's jazz director and assistant director of bands, Wayne Goins, is taking five hand-picked jazz students with him on a tour of South America. The KSU Jazz Ambassadors will start their four-country trip on July 3 and end on July 26. Their first stop is in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil; then they will head Buenos Aires, Argentina; Asuncion, Paraguay; and Montevideo, Uruguay.Original source: Kansas City infoZine. Panamanian Episcopal Bishop Julio Murray was elected the first black president of the Latin American Council of Churches. The race was a tightly contested one, taking three rounds of voting. Bishop Murray amassed the second highest number of votes in the first voting round against the third candidate -- Pastor Oscar Bolioli, president of the Methodist Church in Uruguay.Original source: Spero News. An ammonia leak on the ship Sea World 101 led to the deaths of two Vietnamese and four Koreans and poisoning of 24 others in Uruguay. Nguyen Van Hanh, 27, who was a crew member on the ship, died at the Uruguay National Centre for Burn Treatment six days after the accident occurred. There have been at least 165 Uruguayans that have been estimated as missing in Argentina, 30 of them were killed in the country, another three in Chile and two more in Paraguay.
