15,000 undocumented immigrants facing imprisonment

Undocumented Uruguayans in Spain are facing the danger of entering jail because of a recently approved EU "return directive". According to the directive, member states are allowed to imprison aliens by up to two years.

This has sparked protests not only in Uruguay but also in other Latin American states as, according to them, this violates basic human rights.
